Hi Nilka,

Everyone's situation is different and your question is general and non-specific, so here are some general answers...

You can dispute any item on your credit report and the credit bureau must verify it within a reasonable time (usually within 30 days). If the negative item cannot be verified, it gets removed from your credit report. Very often they cannot verify a derogetory item and it gets removed by default. Other times the credit bureau will write back to say the item has been verified, but they dont provide proof. If this happens, you then have the right to demand proof of that verification. You can also request to see a copy of your signature on loan docs, etc...

Another option (depending on what your debt is (and where it is in the process: has it gone to collections, etc.).. is to negotiate removal of the negative item in return for full or partial payment (ie: pay for removal). Creditors and collections just want their money and they have the power to remove anything they have reported to the credit bureaus. The key here is negotiate removal in writing BEFORE paying, because that's when you have leverage. Once you have paid off the debt you no longer have leverage to go back and ask them to remove the late payment records. If you choose to negotaite removal of negative items, always get it in writing with a "pay for delete" letter.

Credit-Aid software creates all the letters needed for these types of verification requests and also to negotiate with your creditors and collections. Most letters can be created within the software. We also provide additional letters that can be downloaded from within the software (on the LINKS tab of the software) and there is also an ebook full of credit repair secrets that descibes all of these things in detail.
