I found 3 accounts with the same account number listed on my credit report.
The 1st account (Original Creditor in good standing), 2nd account was a collection that resulted in 1st account being delinquent and 3rd was a collection that resulted in 2nd account being delinquent. I disputed to the CRA to remove 3rd account from file as it was paid in full. CRA reported back that 3rd account was delete and at the same the 1st account was deleted too.(It was in good standing). None of my disputes included the 1st account. What happen to the 2nd account? Why was this not deleted? 2nd account is in a negative status that came from the 1st account being delinquent. Would much prefer to have 2nd account removed and leave 1st account alone! I thought if the original account was remove from a credit file all the other accounts connected must be deleted too. I didn’t get a reason from CRA why the 1st account was deleted as the results came in last week. I know CRA must advise consumer of any changes to report.
Thanks for taking the time to read my concern.

Hi Gerald,
Everyone's situation is different and we are not allowed to give you specific legal advice. However I can give you some general information that may help... and also show you some additional tools that might be useful for you.
Generally speaking: "prior" to paying an account off would have been the best time to negotiate removal of negative item (in return for payment -- i.e. pay for delete). This would have been done directly with the creditor prior to paying them off. Thats the time when you most have leverage over a creditor. However, since you are now disputing directly to a credit bureau (You wrote CRA instead of Credit Bureau, but Im guessing you mean CRA as Credit Reporting Agency)...if you had 3 items associated with the same original account and you disputed #3 only and they removed #3 (plus#1), that in itself is an accomplishment. Congratulations. If you did not dispute #2 (and #2 is still there) you might want to trying sending another dispute letter specifically aimed at removing #2. If it were me I would say that item (#2) was listed in error and should have been removed along with the other items (#1 and #3) that were already removed last month. That's certainly worth a try.
30-40 days later, if they should refuse to remove #2, you have the right again and ask for details of how they came to their decision and/or proof of verification. You might want to look at some of these additional letters for your word processor: Open your Credit-Aid Software and click on LINKS...and then look for the link that says "New Letters at Credit Aid" Download those letters. I would specifically look at letters #11 (Request to Describe Investigation Procedures), 12 (Validate Debt Item- Creditor or Credit Bureau) and possibly 14 (Intention to File Complaint with FTC- Credit Bureau) or 15 (Intention to File a Complaint with the FTC- Follow-up after 30 days) if the bureau refuses to comply... #9 (Inaccurately Reported After Investigation Request -- The Prove it Letter): might be worth looking at, as well. Again, everyone's situation is different, but you certainly have rights.
Here is a list of all of the additional letters you can download from the link in your software:
1) Dispute Items - Credit Bureau (alternate)
2) Remove Inquiry - Creditor (alternate)
3) Dispute Items - Credit Bureau
4) Dispute Item - Creditor or Credit Bureau - (alternate)
5) Temporarily Stops Collection
6) Dispute Collections
7) Dispute Follow-up Letter (after 30 days)
8) Dispute Follow-up (after 60 days)
9) Inaccurately Reported After Investigation Request (The Prove it Letter):
10) Dispute Item "Not Mine”
11) Request to Describe Investigation Procedures
12) Validate Debt Item- Creditor or Credit Bureau
13) Dispute Items – Creditor
14) Intention to File Complaint with FTC- Credit Bureau
15) Intention to File a Complaint with the FTC- Follow-up after 30 days
16) Notice of Intent to File Complaint to FTC - Credit Bureau Follow-up after 60 days
17) Sample Frivolous Dispute Letter #1
18) Sample Frivolous Dispute Letter #2
I hope this information helps.
Good luck to you!
